The U17 World Challenge Starts at Sixteen Mile Before November Does

The 2026 U17 World Challenge is advertised as Nov. 1–7, but the first game at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex starts at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. Canada Red plays Czechia in the first of three pre-tournament games that day. Sweden and Finland play at 3:30 p.m., and Canada White plays the United States at 7:30 p.m. This is Oakville's first time hosting the event. The town has hosted Hockey Canada before, including the 2024 Centennial Cup and selection camps for the national under-17, under-18 and junior programs.

If you live in Oakville, the week has a clear shape. It starts on a Friday, has no games on Wednesday, and ends with three games on Saturday. Two Oakville players are on the ice, and the bracket keeps them apart until the playoffs.

Friday, Oct. 30 works like an opening day

Hockey Canada's schedule announcement says all six teams play one pre-tournament game on Oct. 30 at Sixteen Mile. Both Canadian teams play that day. One is a late-morning game and the other is in the evening, so both fit around a normal workday.

These games sell as their own ticket tier, starting at $25. The full-event package is for the 13 tournament games, so you'll need separate tickets for Oct. 30.

The week, game by game

Here is the full schedule from Hockey Canada's tournament schedule. All times are Eastern.

Date 11:30 a.m. / noon 3:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m.
Fri., Oct. 30 Canada Red vs. Czechia Sweden vs. Finland Canada White vs. United States
Sun., Nov. 1 Canada White vs. Czechia Canada Red vs. Finland
Mon., Nov. 2 Czechia vs. Sweden United States vs. Canada Red
Tue., Nov. 3 Finland vs. United States Sweden vs. Canada White
Wed., Nov. 4 No games No games No games
Thu., Nov. 5 Quarterfinal Quarterfinal
Fri., Nov. 6 Semifinal Semifinal
Sat., Nov. 7 Fifth-place game, noon Bronze medal Gold medal

Canada plays in the evening game on every preliminary day. On a weekday, the 3:30 p.m. games fall during school and work hours. The 7:30 p.m. games are easier to reach after dinner.

Why Wednesday is empty, and what it sets up

The six teams play in two groups of three. Group A is Canada Red, Finland and the United States. Group B is Canada White, Czechia and Sweden. Each team plays two preliminary games. The group winners go straight to the semifinals on Nov. 6. The second- and third-place teams cross over to play quarterfinals on Nov. 5.

So no team is knocked out in the first three days. Every team plays on Thursday or Friday. The preliminary games decide which two teams skip Thursday and go straight to the semifinals.

The Nov. 4 break also means the two playoff days come back to back. If you want to see games where a loss sends a team home, Thursday and Friday give you four of them at the same times as the opening rounds. On Saturday the building hosts three games, starting with the fifth-place game at noon and ending with the gold-medal game at 7:30 p.m.

Two Oakville players, two groups

Hockey Canada's rosters list two Oakville players, one on each Canadian team. Kane Cloutier plays for Canada White, and Landon Roulston plays for Canada Red. Oakville News reported that both made their teams after Hockey Canada's development camp this past summer. Cloutier plays for the Oshawa Generals and Roulston for the Peterborough Petes.

Cloutier was the first overall pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection. In the same Oakville News report, he had two goals and four points in his first nine games with Oshawa.

Canada Red is in Group A and Canada White is in Group B, so the two can't meet in the preliminary round. Here is when you can see each of them before the playoffs:

  • Roulston and Canada Red: Oct. 30 at 11:30 a.m. against Czechia, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. against Finland, and Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. against the United States.
  • Cloutier and Canada White: Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. against the United States, Nov. 1 at 3:30 p.m. against Czechia, and Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. against Sweden.

Both Oakville players play on Oct. 30 and on Sunday, Nov. 1. Those are the only two days you can see both of them in the building. Each day takes two tickets, one for each game. After that, the earliest they could face each other is a crossover quarterfinal on Nov. 5. A semifinal or a medal game would also work. Hockey Canada notes that at least one Canadian team has played in each of the last four gold medal games. Canada White won in 2023 and 2024, and Canada Red won in 2025. The 2025 gold medal game was Red against White, and Red won.

What the $200 package covers, and when single tickets cost less

The official ticket page lists four options, and Ticketmaster handles sales:

  • Pre-tournament games on Oct. 30, starting at $25
  • Preliminary round and playoff games, starting at $25
  • Medal-round games, starting at $35
  • A full-event package for 13 games at $200, which Hockey Canada works out to $16 per game

The Oct. 1 announcement says the $200 includes fees. The 13 games are the six preliminary games, two quarterfinals, two semifinals and three Saturday games, so the package covers everything from Nov. 1 to Nov. 7.

At the lowest listed prices, eight single tickets at $25 add up to the package price before any fees. Seven games are cheaper as singles. If your plans are the two Canada games on Sunday plus gold on Saturday, singles cost less. If you'd come back for the playoff days, the package costs less. The single prices are starting prices, so check the ticket page for the current total.

Rink 1, and the rest of the building that week

Oakville News reports that every tournament game will be played on Rink 1. Visit Oakville describes Sixteen Mile as a quad-pad arena with one Olympic-sized pad and three NHL-sized pads. The hockey shares the building with newer facilities. The spring expansion added a community centre and library, and the new pools opened to the public on July 20. There is a 25-metre, six-lane pool and a leisure pool.

If you have a skate, swim or library visit at 3070 Neyagawa Blvd. between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7, check the Town's arenas and ice page for current schedules before you go. The games start at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., which overlaps with after-school and evening hours on the weekdays.

You can also watch from home. TSN and RDS will carry the medal games on Nov. 7. All other games stream pay-per-view on HNLive.

According to Hockey Canada, the event has produced more than 2,200 NHL draft picks since it began in 1986, including 21 first overall selections such as Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews and Macklin Celebrini. This fall's games are at 3070 Neyagawa Blvd., and the first one is on Friday, Oct. 30 at 11:30 a.m.
