265 Kerr Street is not a private-pay retirement residence. It is assisted and supportive rental housing owned and operated by Halton Region, in Kerr Village in south Oakville. What it is

The 265 Kerr Street Residences and Community Hub opened in September 2025. It holds 52 units — 30 one-bedroom apartments and 22 studio suites — with the studios dedicated to supportive housing for older adults who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of it. It is Halton Region’s first Passive House certified multi-residential building, funded jointly by the federal, provincial and regional governments.

Assisted and supportive housing in Halton’s sense means subsidized rental housing with visiting supports for the activities of daily living. That is a different product from a licensed retirement home: there is no tiered independent living, assisted living and memory care structure, and there is no private-pay lease.

Units are allocated through Halton’s centralized community housing waitlist, Halton Access to Community Housing — not by booking a tour and signing a lease. Rents are deeply subsidized and eligibility is income-tested.

The community hub

The ground floor houses a Community Wellness Hub operated by Links2Care in partnership with the Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team. It runs social, recreational and health education programming for tenants and for older adults in the surrounding neighbourhood. Links2Care operates the hub only; it does not own or operate the building.

The neighbourhood — Kerr Village

Kerr Village is the walkable commercial strip running north from the lake in south Oakville, with independent shops, bakeries and restaurants along Kerr Street. The location is genuinely convenient:

• Lake Ontario and the walking paths at Tannery Park are minutes away
• Downtown Oakville and its shops are a short walk or bus ride east
• Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and a range of medical clinics are nearby
• Oakville Transit routes along Kerr Street connect to Oakville GO on the Lakeshore West line
